Susan Boyle ; The World Phenomenon

In case you have not heard of her, you should get out from your cave. Meet Susan Boyle, dubbed the next big thing after the loaf of bread. Touted by music Simon Cowell as a potential number 1 artist, chart breaker.

I felt sad for her really after watching it, honestly speaking I did not expect her to do that good, as you can see even the crowd is making monkey faces, taunting and laughing at her. Especially after the horrific, diabolical jiggle while shaking bum bum act. No not convincing at all.

Since then, she has been making waves all over the world, appearing in Larry King, half of YOUTUBE'S MOST POPULAR VIDEO are videos of her! And I heard she's going to be in Oprah's show really really soon.

That video just signifies the reality of us people nowadays really, superficial and cynical like how Amanda Holden puts it. We are always being critical to people, especially those that we don't know. Taunting and laughing at people without realizing that it hurts to be in their position. We see flaws in everyone who is living in this world, except us. Good things don't necessarily come in good packages, we are unique in our own might, everyone has their strengths and what not.

A lesson to all, do not be superficial, do not be too judgmental, do not be critical based on first impression(often physical), and always believe in yourself, and your talent. Do not falter on setbacks, your time will come. In case for Susan, it came 46 years after. And I am deeply overwhelmed by her down to earth attitude and humbleness when she promptly walked away after she sang. Very genuine.

In short, she has taught us to be true to we are, even if people laugh and say bad things that are not necessarily true, do not change and succumb to unfair criticism.

I wish Susan well!

5 reasons why I love flying with Malaysia Airlines

In case you're wondering, I do not receive a single cent from MAS by writing this.

Ever since the inception of AirAsia, I have found myself patronising AirAsia more. Gone were the days of expensive air travel, one can now travel on a plane at the price of a bus ticket. Being a poor student, I find myself most of the time putting $$ as the first priority, and thus I fly AirAsia more oftenly for the past few years. Also thanks to Tony F and co, that it had made MAS finally realised what an idiot they have been for the past few years, and they decided to join in the bandwagon of offering siao tickets. It's a win-win situation for us consumers, but to the airlines it might not be. I had the pleasure of flying with MAS last week after nicking a cheap ticket few months ago, flying a 5 star value carrier at low cost price ;), and I'm very impressed with the service onboard, though it has been receiving quite an amount of flak recently. May I present to you Walter's top 5 reasons to fly with Malaysia Airlines!

NUMBER 5: KLIA instead of LCCT
I get to check-in at KLIA, use the aerobridge to board the aircraft.

Instead of using the crowded, hot and unorganised Pudu-UdaraLCCT. Where I start to sweat even before the plane takes off...

NUMBER 4: Ah Moi
I'm served by elegant, classy, and poised kebaya clad ahmois with hair tied in a bun rather than bimbos in a short red skirt.

Try flying with AirAsia during the evening or night, chances are the stewardesses are jaded, have messy hair, looks irritated. But textbook says Cabin Crew's first priority are for passenger's safety so ...

oops!

NUMBER 3: Free food and beverages
Though technically not "free", but I do appreciate the fact that I do not need to open my wallet to get a drink or meal. That really makes flying not as glamorous as it should be. With MAS you get free flow of drinks and food on flights more than a certain period.

Who can serve you Nasi Lemak 35,000 feet above sea level. WITH BANANA LEAF SOME MORE!!! Pak Nasser also cannot the last time i checked.

NUMBER 2: Affordable prices!
I got my 2 hour flight ticket for a mere RM198! Prices are as cheap as AirAsia if not cheaper at times. Though you have to be smart in finding the cheap tickets. I'm still studying so I can actually preplan my holidays. This comes in handy as most of the time, you will need to book in advance to get cheap fares. And the all inclusive pricing they use during advertisement saves the need for you to do mental calculation of taxes and what not. Saves brain juice.

Farewell Pak Lah!

Sorry for the hiatus, I was quite caught up with things for the past few days. The past days has been hectic for me to say at least, uni assignment and reports to go in between. And I finally managed to catch up with Twilight, thanks for the chocolate YB, I finished it already hehe. Getting back into reality, It has been 4 days into ~~Najis~~ Najib administration, and nothing major has happened so far apart from the triple by-elections (my favourite airplane party lost ARGHH!!), the new cabinet lineup is up tomorrow; that should be something to look forward to.

I realised I haven't gave Bijan a proper welcome yet, and a proper sending off for our dearest Pak Lah. In fact, I'm still finding it hard to refer Najib Tun Razak as our PM, what more Abdullah Badawi as Tun. Both of them don't sound right together haha. Hope I do not get in trouble by writing that, if I'm not posting for the next few days, chances are I'm eating curry rice in Kamunting. To make things clear, I do not have much knowledge regarding politics but what are write here are based on what i understand and see. As someone of my age, I don't see the need to be that politically savvy anyways... Sue me if you like.

So high hopes awaits Bijan as he storms in as numero uno. I feel he has a big burden on his shoulders to restore faith of citizens towards the government, after all the shit Pak Lah left him with. Not all is bad too about Pak Lah, as much as I hate him, I must also thank him as of his tenure as PM, we Malaysian's finally realise the value(not the RM100) of our votes.

So to my dear Bijan, my hopes for you are simple. Fulfil all 5 of them, you have my votes at the next election (I will be eligible till then wee!).

No more ridiculous fuel prices. As far as I know, we are a oil producing country. My simple and fickle mind works out that we produce oil, we deserve cheaper oil. Please do not give me the usual mambo jambo PR spin, of comparing our price of fuel with other developed countries. Compare their wage, and GDP with ours please hello?
Do what you promised. Please don't do a badawi.

Authentic Sarawak Kolo Mee in KL

Many of those who know me personally will recognise my affection towards food, what more than Sarawak Kolo Mee(The greatest thing since the invention of the internet). I spent most of my life in Sarawak and I grow up eating Kolo Mee. Since moving back to KL 4 years ago, the one thing I miss the most from Sarawak is the Kolo Mee. I can have only kolo mee for 2 days in a row if you put me back in Sarawak now. I even had the audacity to ask friends to tapau for me and hand carry all the way back to KL just to satisfy my addiction. Its addictive, trust me.

I have searched high and low for authentic Kolo Mee in the Klang Valley, nothing came as close as this shop. It is located in Puchong, nearby from where I stay, i can dare say that its 90% close to the original one i had in Sarawak. I patronise this stall at least once a week without fail, why the craziness towards this simple and humble dish? Only Sarawakians will understand. To all you Semenanjung people who still think Sarawakians live on trees heres a simple introduction from wikipedia about kolo mee.

'Kolo mee' or 'koh-loh mein' (egg noodles, flash-boiled and then served with (classically) garlic, shallots, minced pork, white vinegar, pork oil or in some cases peanut oil and sliced barbecue pork also known as "char siew") this is a widely popular dish with the local population in Sarawak. Also known as 'Kan Mien', 'Kampua', 'Mee Kolok'. How does it taste like? Heavenly.

Its dinstictive difference between the wantan mee in Semenanjung and the kan mien one in Sarawak is the white color noodles, the one in Sarawak is not blanched with dark soya sauce. One can request though to have it black(add dark soy) or red(add char siu sauce). This dish is so good, it is even mentioned in the Sarawak Tourism Board's(STB) website

Let me introduce you to one of my favourite eateries in Puchong, Sarawak Kolo Mee in Bintang Food Court, Puchong. The boss is a Sarawakian and the stall is open everyday from morning till noon. He finishes selling them around 2-3pm so do go early as it is quite crowded especially during weekends.

The default setting of Sarawak Kolo Mee is the noodle, boiled vege, minced pork, very RED cha siu, fried shallots and spring onion. This is Kuching's Kolo Mee from Kennysia.com

This is Sarawak Kolo Mee from the stall.

This is the Large portion which is priced at RM4.30. Its priced very decently as it is really filling. The Normal portion is priced at RM3.80, and Kosong at RM2. It is served with minced pork, cha siu, vege, pork with mushroom, lots of shallots and onions. Even the vinegared chilli is there!YUM!

Have it with a nice cup of Teh C Peng (Iced Milk Tea) and you'll see a happy Walter for the day.

In case you are wondering what is the Chicken Bowl, it is the distinct deep bowl with Chicken Printing used to serve Kolo Mee in Sarawak. The Kolo Mee served in this shop is served on a flat plastic plate.

My verdict; This kolo mee beats the crap out of everything i've tasted so far; Kolo Mee in Ming Tien, Original Hand Made Kolo Mee in Asia Cafe. They tend to get confused between Hakka Mee and Kolo Mee. Kolo Mee is not flat owhkay?. On a final note, I can dare say that this is the best Sarawak Kolo Mee you can get in the Klang Valley, other who wishes to disagree please let me know the location of the stall, I can have a try to see if it's really that good. If not we might have to agree to disagree.

Earth Hour

This is exactly what i felt after offing my lights for one hour.

Well, I did play my part yesterday by turning off all lights from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. And Kuala Lumpur did a better job than last year. Look ma no lights!

I don't know if anyone's with me but I felt that this whole Earth Hour thing is a big fat gimmick. Its not that i can be Captain Planet and save the world by just turning off my lights for one hour. Aren't we already turning off lights at night before we sleep?(for most of us). With all the publicity surrounding this, I reckon money used for publicising this exercise should be put into proper use to save the world. Lights and electricity are damn efficient nowadays, you'd probably pollute more by lighting candles rather than turning off the lights.

For a start, to those who want to help save the world. Use less paper, use non-woven bags instead of plastic bags during shopping, take your own container to tapau, recycle etc. What i notice is, everyone is so hype with this earth hour saving the earth thingamajic and right after 9:30 POOF everything turns back to normal.

Look at these idiots..
